There are two types of a stroke – ischemic and hemorrhagic. Both types could result in death. However, the early symptoms are hardly noticed or ignored by most of the people. According to the statistics, strokes are one of the leading diseases in the United States, so you can save your life if you learn how to recognize the symptoms.

What are the early symptoms of a stroke?

Constant headaches and migraines

Severe headaches are one of the most common symptoms in the early stage of a stroke. Headaches are not always dangerous, but if you notice that the pain continues and if it develops quickly, call your doctor as soon as possible.


Chronic fatigue which lasts for a longer period of time might also be one of the warning signs of a stroke. Chronic fatigue is often disregarded, but actually, it needs serious attention.

ASA (The American Stroke Association) recommends learning the FAST acronym will help you to recognize the symptoms of stroke

FAST stands for:

  • F – Face paralysis on one side
  • A-Arm numbness
  • S – Speaking difficulties or distorted speech
  • T – Timing is crucial (if you notice these symptoms, call your doctor immediately)

Vision problems in one eye only, blurred vision

If you have vision problems in one of your eyes, it also may be a sign of stroke.

Difficulty thinking clearly and brain fog

Strokes happen as a result of a problem with blood supply to the brain. When the brain lacks oxygen, brain cells die.

Dizziness and loss of balance
